L.A. LEGGERS Training Program

For more than 30 years, our award-winning program has amazed new members, as they realize that the program works and they really are able to complete their first marathon or half-marathon successfully. New-member orientation starts with one mile. Over the entire training season, we increase the distance gradually to prevent over-training and instill confidence.

In addition, our club has many veteran members who train year-round for 5Ks, 10Ks, triathlons, half marathons, full marathons and even ultra marathons … across the country and around the world.

*Please note, we have a new home for the 2021-2022 season. We will now be meeting at Tongva Park, just a few blocks from our old location of 1450 Ocean Avenue.

 When We Meet 
Our 2021-2022 training season starts in mid-July with two New Member Orientations on July 24 and July 31. The end of the training season is in March with the 2022 L.A. Marathon. Although it might not be training season, LEGGERS meet in Santa Monica every Saturday, year round. During this "off season" members can try new and varied routes as we run (or walk) for the joy of it.

We train early on Saturday mornings starting between 6:15 and 7:30 a.m., depending on your pace group and each week’s mileage.

Volunteers are available to answer questions every Saturday morning, from 6:30-7:30 a.m.

 How it Works 
The L.A. LEGGERS provides:

  •  Pace groups ranging from 7-minutes-per-mile runners to 18-minutes-per-mile walkers. Our experienced mentors guide you through your training and serve as a source of information, inspiration and encouragement.
  •  Educational talks and clinics, such as what to look for in a running shoe, how to avoid injuries and what to expect on marathon day. Expert speakers from a variety of marathon-related fields offer straight talk and practical tips that prepare you for the rigors of long-distance training. Educational events take place Saturday mornings, before or after the training runs and walks.
  •  The L.A. LEGGERS Membership Guide for half marathons and full marathons spells out what to do on Saturdays. Equally important, it tells you what to do during the rest of the week, so you can shine on race day.
  •  Support stations on high-mileage training days and at select events. Leggers volunteers help you reach your goals with water, snacks, high fives and words of encouragement.

 What We Cost 
With a membership fee of only $75 (during early registration) for the 2020-2021 season, we are one of the best fitness bargains in Los Angeles!
